Forums are inherently self selecting when it comes user profile in the main so while many out there enjoy and are accomplished at metaphorically taking their kit apart, I just want productivity tools. It does illustrate my point that most technology users don't have the time or inclination to write code and scripts or learn programming.
The information is interesting but as with most of these things there is a great deal of assumed knowledge and for someone like myself, content to be a clued up system user but with no wish to spend evenings playing with the engineering of their system, not a lot of use. but no idea about Crontab and frankly wouldn't have the first idea how to go about setting anything else up from that point so can I ask for the sake of many who would really benefit, please could we have a 'Setting up and Using Wakelan & Crontab for Dummies'?įrazer wrote:Thanks for the reference to Crontab. Some background I use my TS-412 mainly for backup. I can see that automating WoL of networked PC's from the NAS would be a significant advantage but I confess that most of what I have read in the forum so far has gone over my head so I hope that someone reading this has the patience to expand a little on what has gone before. I suspect that in common with many QNAP users I probably know just enough to get myself into trouble, a truth that will rapidly become apparent as you read on.
